Major |

Highlanders, Machine Gun Corps |
|
|
|
DCM for gallantry, May 1915. Military Cross for "gallantry
and distinguished conduct on 28/09/1918, in command on a machine gun group
during the attack on Messines Ridge. He spent hours preceeding the attack in
reconnaisance of the forward area under severe shell fire, and by his
excellent choice of positions inflicted severe casualties on the retiring
enemy with direct observed fire. His handling of the batteries contributed in
no small degree to the general success". |
Was in
Regular Army and came from India to France as a Sergeant in 1914. Received
his commission and transferred to Mesopotamia, thence to France. While coming
through the Mediterranean, his ship was torpedoed and he lost all his kit. |
